Welcome to Compass Prep AcademyCompass Prep Academy is a unique hybrid program which offers a wide variety of options for many different types of students. Accredited through the GAC (Georgia Accreditation Commission), we offer a full menu of college prep classes, foreign languages, maths and sciences, thought-provoking courses in the Humanities taught from a Biblical worldview, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Money Management, among many other excellent and stimulating courses for kindergarten through high school.
We also have wonderful extracurricular programs such as Compass Fine Arts, Compass Xtreme Survivor for young men, Compass Outdoors Apprenticeship program, Student-designed Independent Study Projects for high school credit, Off-Road Program (takes our students into the community classroom through field trips, speakers, & hands-on experiences) and much more! Robotics and Technology courses are in the development stages as well.
Beyond our accredited high school program, we also offer preschool, elementary, and intermediate/middle school programs:
A new preschool group, for Fall 2013, will be 4's and young 5's who are ready to ease in to reading, math and enjoy lots of pure fun exposure to science, the stories of history, good literature, art/music and other enriching activities. Compass Prep's preschool will be focused on learning in a play-oriented environment, with lots of wiggle time and little sit down time. With a shorter three hour day, the students will get all they need and not be totally worn out at the end of the day!
Our intermediate (middle grades) program is a wonderful mix of 5th-7th grade students. They study math in a tutorial setting with very small groups working at different levels and moving through mastery to the completion of pre-algebra by the time they finish 7th grade. The students in this level can be advanced or challenged in math, because of the tutorial groups. Language arts will include grammar and simple composition, Latin (with some Greek root words as well) and reading across genres with creative book projects to share their reading experiences with the whole class. In Fall 2013, we will have a robotics class, computer animation and a little nature study. Foreign languages are approached at this level by exposing them to four different languages (French, German, Spanish and Italian) by teaching them a selection of conversational phrases in every language while exploring the various cultures reflected in them (music, art, food, geography) in a unit-type study that gives students a good feel for four major world languages so that they can try-before-they-buy! As they hear each language, the students will be more confident when it comes to choosing one to study as they enter their high school years. Various periods of history are taught on a rotation beginning with Ancient Civilizations, Renaissance, Reformation and Age of Exploration, Into the Americas, focusing on early American history, and then 20th Century History. The Fall 2013 period is Renaissance, which will be fun with all the projects and activities we can do!
All types of students, from honors to special needs will be considered for admission. We challenge the high achieving students and encourage the "deflated" ones to find their direction and then help them prepare for and reach their unique goals; thus our name "Compass Prep". This is not an assembly-line, one-size-fits-all program, but one which is organic and works with each student as an individual with their own needs, dreams and goals. When they come to us not having any idea about their futures, we take them through a mentoring process which helps them discover their gifts, interests and, most importantly, their vocation and calling before God.
Whether you have looked at us before or this is the first time you've heard our name, Compass Prep would like to invite you to explore the possibilities for your student to join our unique learning community. We have structured our fees to accommodate families who may have thought they could not afford to take part in our program(s) If after taking a closer look at Compass Prep and the many options we offer, you feel that this community would be a good fit for your student(s), but still think you would be unable to meet the financial obligations, please feel free to contact us about employment opportunities which can greatly reduce your costs for participation.
There are many options for involvement, from full time enrollment in our 2 or 3 day program, to simply using our Accreditation services to make your student's admission into college and scholarship programs a little smoother. Many of our extracurricular programs do not require that a student participate in the Academy, so feel free to inquire about those programs specifically.
